What is Zakat Calculator?
This zakat calculator compares user-entered zakatable wealth with a user-entered nisab threshold. If wealth is at least nisab, it applies a configurable percentage, defaulting to 2.5%; otherwise it returns zero.
The implementation does not determine which assets, liabilities, ownership interests, dates, nisab basis, or exchange rates apply. Those are substantive religious questions rather than arithmetic.
Why Use This Tool?
The tool can perform a transparent calculation after a person has obtained or chosen the relevant wealth, nisab, and rate inputs. It should not be used to decide whether zakat is obligatory in an individual case.
How Does This Tool Work?
Enter nonnegative wealth and nisab in the same currency, plus a nonnegative rate. At or above nisab, the rate is applied to the full entered wealth, not only the amount above nisab. The result is rounded to cents.
If wealth < nisab, estimate = 0. Otherwise, estimate = wealth × rate/100.
- Zakatable wealth
- Amount the user has already determined should be included.
- Nisab
- User-provided threshold in the same currency.
- Rate
- User-provided percentage; the interface default is 2.5%.
Understanding Your Results
Zero means only that the entered wealth is below the entered nisab under this code. It is not a ruling. At the threshold, the calculator applies the rate to all entered wealth. Hawl, debt treatment, business inventory, retirement assets, jewelry, gold versus silver nisab, and local rulings are not modeled.
Why Tracking This Matters
Small differences in valuation date, metal benchmark, liabilities, and asset classification can change the result. Use a qualified scholar or trusted zakat authority familiar with your circumstances.
Benefits of Using Zakat Calculator
- User-controlled nisab
- User-controlled rate
- Clear threshold behavior
- Simple local arithmetic
How Is the Result Calculated?
With zakatable wealth of $15,000, nisab of $5,000, and rate of 2.5%, the calculator estimates $375. It does not apply 2.5% only to the $10,000 difference.
Tips for Better Results
- Use one currency and one valuation date.
- Confirm the assets and debts to include.
- Confirm the nisab basis and current value.
- Keep records and seek qualified religious guidance.

Conclusion
Use the estimate only after confirming inputs and method with a qualified authority. The calculator supplies arithmetic, not a religious determination.
